War Has Come Again
This striking piece depicts a Native American who has learned that war has come again and that he must fight to protect his people from invaders.
While he would happily lead a peaceful life among his family and friends, the current situation does not allow it.
He will fight to protect his home and his people. He will do his duty.
This piece has a powerful presence in any room and will easily be a center of focus. The artist kept it on the wall of his studio for months before deciding to sell it. It is one of his favorite pieces.
It is approximately 22×30 inches on watercolor paper and is a mixed media piece (mainly watercolor with watercolor pencils, colored pencil and ballpoint pen).
$2,250

On the Well-Trod Path of War
With immigrants from Europe claiming tens—and even hundreds—of thousands of acres of land as their personal property, the natives of the land had no choice but to fight for their rights.
This piece is approximately 22×30 inches and is drawn on watercolor paper.
It was drawn completely in ballpoint pen, a rare medium for artists who depict Native Americans. Dean is one of the few artists in the Western and Native American art space who uses it.

And Miles to Go Before I Sleep
Just like modern men and women, early Native Americans probably looked forward to getting back home after a long trip or a long day of work. Humans are more alike than different.
This piece was drawn with colored pencil on Kraft paper and is pasted onto another piece of paper.

Three-Quarter Victory—Four Rode Out, Only Three Returned
One hundred percent victory in war is almost impossible. War must be avoided as much as possible, but sometimes defense of self or others makes it necessary.
This piece was produced with ballpoint pens and white gel pens. The drawing itself is approximately 18×24 inches.
This piece was not expected to become a final piece so was drawn on lighter-weight paper. As a result, it’s price is reduced.

Another Fort for the Greedy Invaders!
Many, probably most, European colonizers who came into Native lands didn’t come just to live among them in a mutually beneficial way but rather to TAKE everything they could to own and control it. Their goal was to exterminate or subdue the Natives, who had no rights in their eyes. The Natives simply stood in the way of their desires, and that could not be tolerated.

In Most Wars, None Win But the Vultures (Human and Otherwise)
In war, neither the soldiers nor the Native Americans really won. In one battle, one might prevail, only to lose the next battle. Many died. The real winners were the vultures (human and otherwise) who benefited from the death and destruction. Still, people must defend themselves and others against oppression when enemies invade their world.
